As part of Columbia’s commitment to sustainability and Lerner Hall’s participation in the Sustainable Leaders Network, individual trash cans were eliminated in Lerner Hall. In 2018, the building moved to a centralized trash model.

Fewer bins encourages less waste production. In fact it is estimated that 75% of all material used by staff on a given day can be recycled rather than sent to landfill

Centralized waste can improve the office environment by reducing the occurrence of pests and managing odors

Short breaks away from your desk throughout the day has a positive effect on personal productivity and has proven health benefits including, but not limited to, reduction in back/neck pain and better circulation
